Placement of a feeding tube through a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is a safe and effective method to provide prolonged enteral nutrition in patients who can not swallow and offers clear advantages over nasogastric tube feeding. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy has become the method of choice to facilitate prolonged enteral nutrition in patients cared for at home.
