EUS is a study performed with a special flexible endoscope that has an ultrasound transducer at its end. From the patient’s point of view, EUS is no different from a common endoscopy.
What is EUS for?
EUS provides very detailed images of the wall of the digestive tract and surrounding organs. That is why the main use of EUS is to define the depth of a tumor in the esophagus, stomach, rectum, or pancreas, among other organs. It also allows you to see if there are ganglia or if it invades veins or arteries. In addition, EUS can be used to diagnose benign diseases of the pancreas, bile duct and gallbladder when doubts arise with other tests. It is also possible to take biopsies of the lesions found with a very thin needle and to obtain a definitive diagnosis.
Within endoscopy, it is the most advanced technology for the correct diagnosis of tumor extensions as well as to perform therapeutic procedures that can not be performed by other methods.
Today ECOENDOSCOPY is the gold standard in the most developed countries of the world for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of various pathologies, especially of the digestive tract and also of other areas of medicine, far exceeds other diagnostic methods used nowadays (TOMOGRAPHY, MAGNETIC RESONANCE, ETC).
